The very latest development in laser eye treatment, state-of-the-art technology from Bausch & Lomb, the world leader in laser vision correction technology,  is a system called Zyoptix, a system that takes laser vision correction to a new frontier. This technology is also referred to as: Wavefront guided customized or Personalized Vision Treatment

What is customization?

Customization means precisely measuring whole optical defect of every person’s eye and programming laser vision correction bases on individual characteristics of each person. Besides ordinary optical defects of the eye such as nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism, the optical system of the eye may have other abnormalities called “aberrations” which can not be measured and treated with standard diagnostic and laser devices. During the process of customization, these abnormalities, which are specific for every individual eye, are measured and treated by sophisticated diagnostic devices and laser machine. This process is also called wavfront customization or wavefront guided customized ablation, because the device that measure aberrations of the eye works base on wavfront sensing and measuring. The wavefront sensor which is called “Aberrometer” has been using in astronomy to measure and eliminate aberration to more clearly visualize space elements


Potential Benefits of Wavefront-Guided Custom vision correction

Wavefront technology is groundbreaking because it has the potential to improve not only how much you can see, visual acuity measured by the standard 20/20 eye chart, but also how well you can see, in terms of contrast sensitivity and fine detail. This translates into a reduced risk of post-LASIK complications, such as glare, halos, and difficulty with night vision.

How much you see depends on vision defects known as lower-order aberrations associated with common refractive errors including myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, which traditional LASIK or PRK can treat.

How well you see can depend on presence of the type and numbers of visual distortions known as “higher-order aberrations”, which can include irregularities other than common refractive errors. These higher-order aberrations can create problems such as decreased contrast sensitivity or night vision, glare, shadows, and halos.  Unlike traditional LASIK and PRK, custom vision correction treats both lower- and higher-order aberrations.
